Although all of Slovakia‘s destinations have something unique to offer and they are all worth a visit, one of the most frequently visited places in the country is Orava, an area located in the northern part of Slovakia. Here we can offer you dialysis treatment in one of our three local centres – Dolný Kubín, Námestovo and Trstená. And, what is it that makes this area so special? Its beautiful mountains, many lakes, rare fauna and flora, friendly local inhabitants, rich history, natural hot springs – in other words, it is a one-of-a-kind place that is definitely worthwhile visiting.

Place description

The Orava region is broken into two parts – the lower Orava, which has the city of Dolný Kubín at its centre, and the upper Orava (also known as the „White Orava“), with its two main cities of Námestovo and Tvrdošín. Orava is a region which can be visited in any season because there is always something on offer.

Tatralandia is the largest water park not only in Slovakia, as well as in the Czech Republic and Poland.

Lake Oravská – finished in 1954. The Orava River is one of Slovakia‘s cleanest rivers. Due to frequent floods, the plans to build a dam and reservoir began in the 18th century. The reservoir filled an area that used to have 4 separate towns and the only part of the covered area that remains above the surface of the reservoir is a small hill, which was transformed by the water into Slanický Island – also referred to as the „Island of Art“. The island houses a museum of folk sculpture and paintings and it is only accessible by boat. Besides a variety of different water sports options (peddle boats, scuba diving, waterskiing, windsurfing and boating), Lake Oravská also offers visitors additional activity options such as boat sightseeing trips, fishing and hiking.

Experiences of patients

My husband and I have always travelled all over the Czech Republic. I was afraid that my dialysis would put an end to that and we would have to stay at home. Thankfully, it hasn’t been that way and because of holiday dialysis we keep taking trips.
