A good place to start your visit to Slovakia is Bratislava, the country‘s capital and largest city. This historically significant regional centre is also the location of one of our facilities. The city is nested along the banks of the River Danube in the south-western part of Slovakia, near the borders of Hungary and Austria. The city has a population of approximately 430,000. Most of the local landmarks can be found in the city‘s historic downtown area, which is well known for its numerous palaces built in the Baroque style. In Bratislava, regularly hosts major music festivals, exhibitions and fairs.

Place description

Surroundings of Bratislava, which was called Přešporok /Přešporek till 1919, was settled in Neolithic times. However, continuous settlement comes from the period 400 BC to 50 BC, when the Celts lived there. They built a fortified settlement (oppidum) with its own mint.

Thanks to its location in the Danube basin is a very pleasant climate here. The nearby Little Carpathians offer again untouched nature, around the Danube are a few dead arms with flooded forests.

Bratislava is located just 60 km from Vienna, 300 km from Prague and to Budapest it is about 200 km.

Tourist attractions in the town and surrounding areas:

St. Martin Cathedral - This largest and most famous church in Bratislava was built in the 14th century with later additions dating from the 15th through 18th centuries. In the period from 1563 – 1830, the cathedral was used as a venue for the coronations of Hungarian kings and queens.

Bratislava Castle - The castles has numerous scientific and educational exhibits, including items of historical items, and numismatic, ethnographic and art collections. The castle also houses a unique collection of musical instruments, musical records and photographs documenting the lives of famous people from the world of music. Inside the castle is the Slovak Hockey Hall of Fame.

Primates Palace and Primates Square - The palace houses one of the most valuable collections of the Bratislava City Museum – a series of tapestries, which were woven in the English royal manufactory in London in the first half of the 17th century

Devín - This castle is listed as one of Slovakia‘s national cultural landmarks. This Slavic stronghold is located on a hill overlooking the confluence of the Danube and the Morava Rivers. In the 9th century, at the time of Great Moravia, Prince Rastislav used the site as the location for a major fortress. The ruins, which are left over, were renovated and are open to visitors. It is located on the outskirts of Bratislava in city district Devin, you can use the public transport from the centre of Bratislava to get there.

Malé Karpaty (Small Carpathians) - This nearly 100 kilometre long mountain range stretches from the town of Nové Město nad Váhom all the way to Bratislava. The area is perfect for hiking and bicycle riding and in the winter, also for cross-country skiing. The Small Carpathians also have several ski resorts.

Senec and the Sľnečné Lakes - One of Slovakia‘s most popular summer tourist destinations. In 2004, the resort opened a new thermal water park with nine heated pools and water temperatures of up to 36°C.

Zlaté Piesky - Literally translated „the golden sands“, this is the largest recreational and sports complex in Bratislava. The resort is located on the north-eastern outskirts of Bratislava.

The hotel is located just 5 minutes walk from the dialysis centre, to city centre is 10 minutes by public transport. This area offers a wide range of sports and cultural activities. The hotel itself is located directly above the lake and has its own private beach. The hotel has a restaurant and also offers a wellness program. Since 2004 you can visit new water park.
