Elbląg is a city in the Warmia-Masuria Province, at the estuary of the river Elbląg, which falls into the Vistula Lagoon. The city is situated at the Warsaw-Gdańsk route and the route leading from Western Europe to Kaliningrad and Baltic states. Elbląg is 33 km away from Malbork. Malbork is famous in Poland and abroad for its medieval Teutonic castle. This monumental building, raw in appearance, attracts crowds of tourists. Elbląg is among the oldest cities in Poland, founded at the beginning of XIII century. It houses many valuable architectural monuments of the Middle Ages.
Among Elbląg’s monuments the following are worth seeing:
OLD TOWN, which is the area of excavation works. New apartment houses are built on the foundations of old tenement houses gradually being exposed by archaeologists. Shapes of new houses are patterned on the old facilities. In the Old Town one may also admire: MARKET GATE, which represents a piece of old defensive walls. Its lower part was constructed in 1319.
ST. NICHOLAS CATHEDRAL. Throughout the ages the sanctuary has been rebuilt and modernized couple of times. Nearly from the outset of the city’s existence it was a catholic church, and now it is a cathedral. Many works of art are present there, including sculptures, bronze baptismal font of 1387 and wooden altar of 1515.

My husband and I have always travelled all over the Czech Republic. I was afraid that my dialysis would put an end to that and we would have to stay at home. Thankfully, it hasn’t been that way and because of holiday dialysis we keep taking trips.
