Tatabánya has been the county seat of Komárom-Esztergom County since 1950, and a city of county rights since 1991.
According to the legend, the troops of Árpád gained victory over the army of Svatopluk, the Moravian Prince here. As its memorial, the Turul Bird was raised here in 1907, which is the largest statute of a bird in the world and the largest bronze statute in Central Europe.
Tatabánya has been a mining and industrial city until the fall of communism; since then mining and heavy industry have been reduced to minimum and the economic composition of the city has changed. Despite the decline of mining, Tatabánya could successfully turn around after the fall of communism and its development has been continued. Structural change was also carried out in local employment.
Thanks to its favourable geographical location, new industrial and commercial centres have been established in the city; mainly international assembly and service centres have settled in the former mining town.
Tatabánya is dynamically developing today. The town has several centres with multi-story houses being dominant with many parks and green areas among them. It is a member of the Federation of European New Cities. Its image is unique because of its newer and newer investments.

I used to say that I was sick and couldn’t travel anywhere. But I tried it once, and since then I’ve been on three vacations. My wife and I get to take a break from our daily grind and discover a new place in our beautiful country.
