Gyõr is a mellow old town halfway between Vienna and Budapest in a quiet environment, where a series of architectural, cultural and natural values are combined. The radial road network of the city connects Slovakia from the north, Austria from the west, Lake Balaton from the south and Budapest from the east to the heart of the Kisalföld. The Gyõr-Péri airport has been opened recently allowing access to the city by air.

It is the second richest country city in terms of historic memories. In acknowledgement of the reconstruction of its baroque inner city, it has been awarded a Europe prize for the protection of historic monuments. Visitors are invited for walks in the inner city by churches, palaces, museums, typical corner-balconies and narrow streets recalling historic ages. The historic sites in and around Gyõr are memories of 1000-year old Hungarian Christianity.
