After the period of World War II, Debrecen was characterised by large scale industrialisation. In addition to strengthening traditional industries, new industrial operations appeared in the city. Next to a pharmaceutical plant, a medical instruments plant and a bearings plant, the economic potential of the city was represented by railway car shops, a printing house, a tobacco plant, a poultry processing plant, a dairy company, a cannery, a meat processing plant, a clothes factory, a county construction company, a pre-fab plant, a telecommunications company and an agricultural machine factory and the construction industry was also booming. Several multinational trading companies established shopping centres in the city.
Today, Debrecen has a new training centre of field sports, a sports hall, a swimming pool and a conference centre and the main square of the city has been refurbished. The development of infrastructure had made it possible that, for instance in 2005, the city could host the adult world championship of gymnasts, a division I ice-hockey world championship and a European championship of air balloons. The Debrecen Airfield has been developing as well.

Last year my doctor suggested a spa, but my husband was on dialysis. I’ve never been anywhere by myself so I just put it off. By chance, my husband was offered a holiday dialysis stay. So we decided to both go to Teplice, and I think we’re going to go again this year.
