Békéscsaba received the right of county seat in 1950, and has been a county seat ever since. The area is famous of its natural beauty, the hospitality of its people and unique and special dishes.
The city with a population of almost 65 thousand offers numerous specialities and sights for visitors. City dwellers and visitors can walk along the Élővíz channel dividing the city into two, where busts of famous sons of the city and of the country decorate the path.
The Csaba Sausage Festival organised since 1997 has been the pride of the city. Its objective is to preserve and promote the traditions of the area. The Festival has become a major event of gastronomy both in Hungary and abroad and represents real tourist attractions with 65-70 thousand visitors, colourful programmes and supplementary events.
