Ostrava is the third largest city in the Czech Republic. In the past, Ostrava was referred to as the steel heart of the country and was known as an industrial, dirty and not very welcoming city. However, after 1989, the city has undergone a number of major changes, which has led to major improvements not just in the living conditions for its local residents, but also positive changes to the city‘s overall character.
Ostrava is located near the border with Poland and Slovakia. It offers everything as the largest city of Czech Republic in Prague and Brno and even several superlatives that you can not find anywhere else. In addition to industry, which is “famous” for this city, it is also known for Stodolni street, the street where is the largest number of clubs, bars and restaurants in one location. But the town offers much more.
Where Ostrava is ‚Number One‘ - The tallest town hall tower in the Czech Republic (85.6 meters), the deepest coal mine – Bezruč, where they used to mine coal at a depth of 1,200 meters, the largest natural swimming pool, the largest university campus, the oldest pedestrian zone in the Czech Republic and others.
Slezskoostravský Castle - This castle, which dates back to the second half of the 13th century, was built to protect the route to Poland and the borders of the Polish state.
Miniuni - Spread out over an area of 1,5 hectares, this unique attraction offers visitors more than 30 small replica of important European landmarks. The replicas are at a 1:25 scale and include such famous structures as London‘s Big Ben and a 12 meter version of Paris‘ Eiffel Tower.
Industrial Landmarks (The Lower Area of Vítkovice) - The Důl Hlubina Mine and the Smelter and Coking Plant of the Vítkovice Metal Works – This unique industrial complex dates back to the first half of the 19th century and it has been designated a national cultural landmark.
Klimkovice Sanatorium – 15 km from Ostrava, this facility specializes in the treatment of locomotive, neurological, gynaecological, dermatological and vascular conditions.

Last year my doctor suggested a spa, but my husband was on dialysis. I’ve never been anywhere by myself so I just put it off. By chance, my husband was offered a holiday dialysis stay. So we decided to both go to Teplice, and I think we’re going to go again this year.
